Meet Luke Whitehead
Luke wasn’t born in Louisville, Kentucky — he chose it.
After graduating from the University of Louisville and falling in love with the people, grit, and spirit of this city, he planted his roots here more than 20 years ago. During his time as a Cardinal, Luke survived one of the most devastating falls in college basketball — a moment that could have ended his life. Instead, he experienced something unforgettable: a community that rallied around him. The support, prayers, and chants of “Luuuuke” weren’t just about basketball — they were about belonging. That moment deepened his faith, strengthened his resolve, and cemented Louisville as home.
As a standout student-athlete, Luke learned under Hall of Fame coaches who demanded discipline, accountability, and teamwork. He went on to play professional basketball, gaining global perspective and learning how to lead under pressure. Along the way, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communication and his MBA from U of L, equipping himself with the tools to succeed beyond the court in business and nonprofit leadership.
Luke is a devoted husband and proud father of two sons, ages 18 and 6, who fuel his commitment to build a stronger future for every family. For two decades, he has invested in Louisville — mentoring youth, creating opportunity, and bringing people together across differences. He chose this city and state. He built his life here. And he’s ready to serve — and deliver — for District 36.
